I have read more than my fair share of "self-help" literature, so I can say with conviction that this is not a self-help book. Instead, it is a book of revelation. Each chapter provoked numerous "ah-ha!" moments for me, because Dr. Brown goes one step (or two, or five) beyond the common way of seeing or posing a problem to reveal the interconnectedness of elements that stop or sabotage our efforts to live a more fulfilling life. Instead of the "not resounding" vibes that I often receive, I read more than my fair share of "self-help" literature, so I can say with conviction that this is not a self-help book. Instead, it is a book of revelation. Each chapter provoked numerous "ah-ha!" moments for me, because Dr. Brown goes one step (or two, or five) beyond the common way of seeing or posing a problem to reveal the interconnectedness of elements that stop or sabotage our efforts to live a more fulfilling life. Instead of the "that does not resonate" vibe that I often get from self-help books, Dr. Brown's perspectives are true, and she re-labels certain attitudes and experiences in a way that is surprising and, what It is more important, optimistic. Collect your ideas from your research centered on living an "unconditional" life, which emerged from your previous study (perhaps ongoing?) On "shame". The results that Dr. Brown presents in this slim and readable book are fascinating and do not work as an instruction manual to quickly solve a life out of balance, but as a set of powerful tools with which to cultivate a richer life, more engaged and connected ...Plus
